The P2-billion Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway, which is expected to cut travel time between Metro Manila and Cavite by 45 minutes, is now open to motorists.

MCX had its soft-opening on Tuesday and is expected to be fully operational on Friday.

Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson said the four-kilometer, four-lane expressway will cut travel time by an average of 45 minutes from Metro Manila to Cavite and vice versa. It is expected to decongest traffic in Cavite, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa areas.

The MCX is the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) road project under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III. The Ayala Corporation is the private proponent.

“We are optimistic that the completion of this toll road would improve CALABARZON’s competitiveness as an investment destination,” the DPWH chief added.

The MCX will provide access to the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) property in Muntinlupa City. The property is being groomed to become a mixed commercial, residential, and institutional estate.

It involves the construction of two (2) Segments namely: Segment 1 which starts at junction Daang Hari – Daang Reyna, Elliptical Road or Rotunda, and Segment 2, which starts from and ends at South Luzon Expressway near Susana Heights Interchange.
